My Conservation Philosophy

My marine conservation work is a holistic virtuous cycle:

Educating and inspiring people leads to support for the ocean’s protection and restoration.

This creates wild spaces that allow for amazing experiences of wonder and connection to the ocean.

These experiences lead to an increased appetite for learning and understanding...

But this is only a small piece of the marine conservation puzzle.

As a dive instructor and dive centre manager I take guests into the ocean for life-changing experiences on a daily basis. From student divers to snorkellers to experienced dive veterans, I have shared innumerable breathtaking moments of connection and awe with people from all backgrounds, from high profile celebrities to local fishermen to tiny kids just discovering their passion for the natural world.

As glamourous as this job might seem, it's a job that can be pretty full-on at times- but the countless occasions that I have been told that I gave someone an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their life makes it all worth it!

Whether in-person or online, I use my knowledge, experience and passion for ocean ecosystems to help those around me to deepen their understanding of the magical underwater realm.

As a photographer I aim to inspire a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world with my underwater and wildlife photography.

As an educator of Marine Ecology , I aim to provide deeper insight into the Ocean’s wonders by giving lectures and presentations on marine biology topics, developing courses for those seeking to take their first steps into the professional conservation field, or simply providing commentary to guests and buddies joining me for diving or snorkel trips,.

Throughout my career I have had the privilege of getting hands-on on the front lines of the effort to conserve our ocean species, from managing a research project used to inform policy on protected areas in Madagascar, to working in a state-of-the-art coral restoration facility in the Maldives.

I have had the opportunity to collaborate with countless inspirational individuals and impactful organisations including The Manta Trust, Coralive, Project Laut, Coral Cousins, Nuansa Pulau and Olive Ridley Project, and have worked alongside research institutes including the University of Queensland, McGill University, the University of Exeter and Operation Wallacea.
